Yes, I love Apple Watch. I may have spent more on Watch in the past three years than on all the watches I purchased in the past 30 years (one watch went for 25 years so the numbers are skewed) but I don’t regret the purchase.
Watch Series 3 with LTE is a game changer and we can expect future Watch models to come down the road with more features, better features, and maybe a few earth shattering functions. Think blood glucose readings. Yes. Game changer.
In the interim, there is one feature I want which Watch and watchOS does not have. Watch faces. Yes, Apple gives us a few, but the selection is somewhat anemic and definitely not of the caliber of what some of Apple’s most loyal customers truly want.
These are from Android Wear, of course. Apple would never allow anything so gauche. But I want it anyway.
Apple will give us custom watch faces. What a perfect storefront. Yes, we have applications and I have more than my share. Thanks to the Mincey collection gene, I have more than I use. Does anyone not expect Watch owners to collect more watchfaces than they will use.
Some will just be to show off. Others will be expanded versions of the modular watchface with all those complications.
This is mostly what you get from Apple’s watchface collection (plus a few new ones, and Nike).
See the differences?
Apple’s own watchfaces are bland and blah and could be so much more with just a little extra effort.
I’m not advocating that Watch owners have the tools to design their own watchfaces– though I want the option to put complications where I want them. Watch app developers could charge 99-cents for a basic watchface and perhaps $1.99 for one with more complications, or with options to allow the Watch owner to customize certain elements.
Alright, admittedly, my choices are decidedly masculine but you get the idea, right?
Choice is good and Apple’s choices are not so good, and decidedly feminine. I don’t expect a round watchface for Watch anytime soon, but having a wider variety of watchfaces is a no brainer.
Apple, it’s time to deliver.
