If time is money then tracking time can be a good thing. For Mac users who time this or that– either with a timer or stopwatch– here’s an inexpensive utility that resides in the Mac’s Dock and does just that. It’s a timer.
The name is Nice Timer Dock which is about as descriptive as you can get for a utility this inexpensive. All it does is what you think it does, but it does it simply and elegantly, hence the ‘Nice’ part of the name.
Use Nice Timer Dock as a stopwatch to time a specific event or task. Or, click the button and change Nice Timer Dock to a timer.
The app comes with seven different color styles in the Dock, a Today View, and global hotkeys which make it faster and easier to change from Timer to Stopwatch, or to adjust the time.
There’s also an alarm sound which uses OS X’s built-in sounds. What I would like are alarm sounds specific to Nice Timer Dock to differentiate from alerts and notifications spewed out by OS X itself.
For Mac users who prefer the Notification Center, Nice Timer Dock also displays the timer with controls there.
What’s interesting here is that Nice Timer Dock does what the Clock app does in iOS for iPhone and iPad. That handy utility acts as a World Clock, an Alarm, a Stopwatch, and a Timer, and it’s built in to iOS.
Why not something like that for the Mac?
A quick search for ‘clock timer’ on the Mac App Store reveals dozens of options; some free, some with in-app purchase options, some remarkably expensive considering that Apple gives Clock away for free with every iPhone and iPad.
