All you need is Mactracker. The name belies what the app actually does. It’s not just the Mac. Mactracker started out as a repository for various Mac models, but since then covers in detail almost all Apple products– OS versions, Apple mice, keyboards, displays, printers, scanners, cameras, and all the new products, including Mac, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Apple TV and more.
All that information is stuffed into a free Mac app that makes it easy to search for products and get details. Simply select a product category, select the product, and click to view the details.
Mactracker also displays retail prices for most products, as well as information about when the product was introduced and discontinued, whether it’s still supported by Apple.
It’s a good, quick, painless way to learn more about your own Mac, or any Apple product you’ve owned in the past. Why Mactracker is free is beyond me. It should be named AppleTracker, though. The Mac makes up a portion of Apple’s revenue and profits that is less than iPhone or iPad.
