I’m talking home inventory. That’s what MYStuff Pro does. It’s a Mac home inventory app. Whew. Who needs that? Actually, all of us. Think insurance. If there’s a theft or a massive catastrophe, wouldn’t it be great to have an updated list for the insurance company?
MYStuff Pro makes taking an inventory a little less painful and tedious; actually, almost fun. The main window tells the tale of how valuable a home inventory can be.
One click gets you a long list of all your belongings, but everything you own can also be categorized– by room or type or value. However you want to track the information MYStuff Pro can do it.
Creating a list of belongings is easier than you think. Use your Mac’s camera to scan books, CDs, DVDs (all the information gathering is handled automatically in the background. Got a gadget that needs a manual? Find it online and save it in MYStuff Pro.
That makes this one app good for browsing your belongings, updating item values, storing manufacture information and warranties, and keeping track of receipts. All you do is add a new record of an item, enter the basic information, and MYStuff Pro stores it.
It even works with barcodes and scanners so almost anything you own can be stored safely in the app’s database. The barcode scanner uses Amazon to look up manufacturer information so you can keep price values updated.
Here’s what’s missing.
An iPhone version that lets you wander around the house or office taking photos of objects, scanning UPC codes (as a barcode scanner) and saving them back to MYStuff Pro would be a worthwhile update. There’s also a one-click backup option but that needs to be saved to Dropbox or iCloud or somewhere besides on your Mac.
