One of my favorite Mac apps from the aforementioned category is PeakHour, a real-time network traffic visualizer and analyzer for your small office or home network. What you get is decidedly geeky but attractive and useful at the same time.
What it does is monitor your network traffic device-by-device. Wi-Fi. Ethernet. NAS. Servers. Macs. And it does it with an attractive visual graphic.
The trick to getting those useful graphs and data is how PeakHour works with many SNMP or UPnP routers (most modern routers for home or office). More on that in a moment.
PeakHour can monitor multiple devices connected to the network at the same time. Data is collected and graphed so you can see how much bandwidth the network consumes on a device-by-device basis.
PeakHour is priced right, too; a bargain at $1.99. But before you fork over your hard earned cash you need to make sure you have the right hardware connected to your network. For that, there’s the free PeakHour Compatibility Check app. It’s a must have and easy to setup and use.
Nicely done. Great graphs. Good price.
The only issue is that not all home or small office hardware will be supported so make sure to download the Compatibility Check app first. Otherwise, PeakHour works great.
