What’s the weather like right now where you are? If you’re near a window you get a quick idea if it’s sunny or dark, raining or snowing, and maybe the window divulges enough information to know if it’s hot, warm, cool, or cold.
For more detailed information about current weather conditions we lovers of Apple gadgets have apps that suck down weather information so we’ll know the temperature, current conditions, and even the forecast. Still, looking out the window gives you at least a sense of what’s going on outdoors.
Here’s a look at a Mac weather forecast app that has the strangest feature you’ll never use. The My Window app displays weather information and gives you the option to take a photo by looking out your window and use that as the background. And it’s animated. Big whoop, right? Indeed.
The My Window weather app displays accurate weather conditions as well as six more days of forecasts. For the background image, you’re on your own. If you don’t like the thunderstorms brewing outside, add a photo of a beach. If you’re bored by the rain, add a photo of your neighbors getting drenched (it’ll make you feel better because you’re inside where it’s dry).
It’s not that My Window weather app is bad. It’s not. It’s not even expensive, so you’re probably getting somewhere close to what you pay. It just doesn’t blaze any new trail and doesn’t inspire. It’s just another weather app with a trick you don’t need.
