Grab a folder and drag it to an external disk. Or, to another Mac. Or, hold down the Option key and create a duplicate of a folder full of files.
Today’s backup routines, for all the built-in automation, can be a complicated affair, especially if all you’re trying to do is synchronize a folder on one Mac with a folder on another Mac (or, sync folders to an external storage device such as a USB disk).
Why bother to sync folders full of files? Often we need the same files on different machines, so when a change to a file occurs on one Mac, it needs to be synced up with the other Mac.
Sync Folders Pro is one of those inexpensive Mac backup apps that’s good at basic synchronization, even though it looks a bit complicated.
As with many Mac sync and backup apps, Sync Folders Pro uses the standard A to B, or source to target to setup the sync. And, sync can occur from target to source, source to target, or mirrored.
Its a good app to backup folders of files to a USB thumb drive, a memory card, a connected USB or FireWire external disk, or remote storage devices, including Dropbox.
Sync Folders Pro comes with a built-in sync scheduler (or, go manual), automatic sync (when changes are made to a folder), and real bi-directional synchronization. Run it as an app, from the Menubar, or have it work in the background. And, sync settings can be saved and used again.
That’s the easy part. The app has so many extra features and filters that Mac geeks will enjoy the tweaking options that might be confusing to the rest of us. Mac users have plenty of backup and sync options, but few have as many features in a low price package.
