There’s no built-in transit directions but Kate found an even better app to bring transit back to the iPhone.
What I really like about using GPS and mapping data is being able to find out what’s around me wherever I happen to be at the moment. That’s what AroundMe does. It’s an iPhone and iPad app which displays what’s around you.
Open AroundMe and select Hotels, Movie Theatres, Parking, Restaurants, Supermarkets, Bars, Gas stations, Hospitals, or anything else, and AroundMe displays the details– one touch. One more touch brings up the map, or simply display everything nearby in maps mode instead of list.
Navigating the AroundMe app is simple. Press List, Map, or Live View (with options for Standard Map, Satellite Map, or Hybrid Map).
In Maps view, touch a pin and the details pop up, including phone number, Share, and an option to create a favorite.
And, of course, it’s merely a button touch to get directions to a destination from your current location. The Nearby listing displays information from Wikipedia based upon your location.
AroundMe is free but the ad free version is only a few dollars. It’s actually fun to find out what’s around you when you travel.
