Is it any wonder that Facebook decided to buy Instagram? Is there an easier and more fun way to share photos online from your iPhone?
Mac users, rejoice. But not too much. Instagram has come to the Mac in the form of Carousel. Unfortunately Carousel isn’t Instagram, but it is a quick and elegant way to explore Instagram while using your Mac.
Explore? That’s pretty much all Carousel does. You won’t be able to upload photos as Instagram’s app does, but whatever is on Instagram can be explored on your Mac.
What do you get in the Carousel interface?
View your Instagram photos, save photos to your Mac, search for photos, check all photos you’ve liked on Instagram.
Single photo view lets you see all the comments and likes and you can moderate comments (and like and comment on other photos).
You can also open Instagram photos in Safari and grab a copy of the photo’s actual URL to share. And, of course, it’s easy to see who you follow and who’s following you.
Carousel supports notifications, including Growl, and if you’re bored with the basic theme, there are three others.
What’s missing? Carousel is more of a window into Instagram than it is an official Instagram app, which the Mac sorely needs.
For what it’s worth, the Carousel icon is of an old Kodak Carousel slide projector. That is so 1979. Been there. Done that.
