Spoofing is all the rage these days. Basically, spoofing means to create and use a fake caller ID name and number, or a fake email address, or a fake IP address.
Mac users with Airport Wi-Fi enabled can spoof their MAC address with a simple, free app that makes spoofing incredibly easy. Why would you want to spoof the Wi-Fi MAC address (as opposed the the Mac’s IP address)?
It’s WiFiSpoof. It’s fun. It’s easy. All the cool guys are doing it. And it couldn’t be easier to create an anonymous, obscure MAC address on your local network.
Preferences are nominal, but include custom hotkeys so you won’t have to use WiFiSpoof from the Mac’s Menubar.
Using WiFiSpoof from the Menubar works the same way. Open Preferences. Randomize the MAC address. Quit.
There’s not much more going on here. WiFiSpoof is free. Mac geeks can do the same thing from the Mac’s terminal app (provided you know what to type), but WiFiSpoof brings spoofing to the masses.
