App notifications feature a pop out window which is just visual enough to catch your eye, but subtle enough to not be irritating. What’s missing in Notification Center? I wouldn’t mind a little customization (background color, change size and color and design of the pop outs), but the biggest complaint is the lack of apps that use Notification Center.
iTunes, I’m looking at you.
When I’m on my Mac at home I usually have iTunes pumping along, bouncing between various playlists. How hard can it be have iTunes pop up in Notification Center? Apple doesn’t provide that but iTunification does. And it’s free.
Basically, iTunification sends a notice to Notification Center (and to Growl) that lists the iTunes track, the artist, rating and album art (in Growl).
With Notification Center open, iTunification is displayed to the left of the sidebar.
iTunification can also play radio station streams from iTunes. The notifications can be customized for Growl but not for Notification Center.
The artist name and song are in the same font size and style, and would look better with a boldface or different font. And, if there’s a way to quit iTunification once it’s launched, I can’t find it.
Otherwise, nicely done, priced right, and useful but not annoying.
