Our Quote of the Week comes from the man who has made many films (and a fair amount of money) from his grim, pessimistic – but funny – perspective on life. Woody Allen is at the Cannes Film Festival publicizing his new movie You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. That stranger, says Allen, could be a handsome man but it could also be the Grim Reaper – the tall dark stranger we’ll all eventually meet.
As for the quote of week, here’s Woody on getting older:
I find it a lousy deal. There is no advantage to getting older. I’m 74 now and you don’t get wiser, you don’t get more mellow, you don’t get more kindly – nothing happens. But your back hurts more, you get more indigestion, your eyesight isn’t as good and you need a hearing aid. It’s a bad business getting older and I would advise you not to do it if you can avoid it…My relationship with death remains the same – I’m strongly against it.”
Well, at least his wit is as sharp as ever.
