There’s a great little game that’s been going on in America for quite some time now. It’s called “Blame the boomers.” Yep, we get blamed for just about everything these days, from the recession to the impending collapse of Social Security. I’m just waiting for them to find some way to point a finger at us for the recent earthquakes.
The baby boomer blame game is the subject of our Quote of the Week, which comes from the Athens (GA) Banner-Herald. Contributor Irene Budof takes issue with the latest accusation:
The writer of the Wednesday letter headlined “Tea partiers avoiding truth” was wrong to suggest baby boomers’ attitudes are responsible for the advent of the conservative “tea party” movement. I’m one baby boomer who thinks the tea party crowd is a bunch of entitlement whiners, intoning “I have mine, but I don’t want anyone else to have any”. . . So, count me in as a baby boomer who isn’t part of the tea party movement. Age is just a number; it’s attitude that’s important.”
Budoff might have pointed out that it’s also wrong to try to paint 70+ million people with the same brush – but that’s probably just wasting energy on a lost cause.
