File this bit of news under “Stating the obvious.” According to a recent report, a few million baby boomers are still getting high. Did you really think the generation of “If it feels good, do it!” was going to change its ways as it got older? In fact, think about it: many boomers are at that stage in life where the kids are gone, the important milestones have been passed, the responsibilities are fewer…and Fantasia is coming out this year on Blu-ray!
According to the report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, an estimated 4.3 million folks over the age of 50 used an illicit drug last year. That’s about 4.7% of that age group, and marijuana was the more common drug of choice from those age 50 – 59. On the serious side, a spokeswoman says it could mean we’ll need to double the number of substance abuse treatment services needed for this group by the year 2020. On the not-so-serious side, it may mean a run on brownie mix during senior discount days at the grocery store for years to come.
