Remember once upon a time when there was actually something worth watching on MTV? And don’t try to tell me that Jersey Shore is worth watching – any show with a character calling himself “The Situation” is just lame. But from 1997 to 2002, the cable network aired a quirky, incredibly funny animated series called Daria. Daria Morgendorffer had been a minor character on Beavis and Butthead, but they spun her off into her own show when B and B came to an end.
Remember this wonderfully sardonic take on the life of an American teenager in the ‘burbs? No? Well, here’s a little something to jog your memory:
Remember now? Daria got rave reviews when it first aired on MTV, and it’s easy to see why: it was clever and biting satire on the banality of not just high school, but life in general in middle-class America in the late 90s. There’s been talk of Daria coming out on DVD for several years now, and the latest news is that it is scheduled for release sometime this year. But why wait? We’ve found both season 1 and 2 available now from the iTunes music store. The price is only $14.99 per season to once again enjoy the sick, sad and wickedly funny world of Daria, best friend Jane, sister Quinn, cheerleader Brittany, and of course, Charles “Upchuck” Ruttheimer III.
The very first episode is the hilarious Esteemsters.
