Who’da thunk 46 years after they invaded America – and my girlish fantasies – that my e-mail inbox would flash with an urgent message from Ticketmaster that, if I hurry, I can get a premium ticket to one of the hottest concerts coming this summer: Ringo Starr!
Oh man, does that take me back! (I had the Ringo doll). The guy is a great role model for us bohemian boomers…think about it: he was never taken as seriously as his band mates (he was the “funny” Beatle), but then he never seemed to take himself seriously either. Ringo is still making music; in fact, he calls his new release, Y Not, the album that “best represents my personality.” He’s embarking on a U.S. tour this summer (with Edgar Winter – remember Frankenstein? – in his All Starr band), and just this month he got his very own star – or should we say starr? – on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
And in the middle of his aggressive touring schedule, Ringo will celebrate his 70th birthday in July. You tell me, is this guy the quintessential bohemian boomer or what?!? Paul McCartney may have worried “will you still need me when I’m 64,” but it’s certain that Ringo hasn’t wasted a moment on the angst of growing older – he just keeps on keepin’ on.
Plenty of chances to catch Ringo and his All Starr band this summer, here are the tour dates from his official website.
