Guess what? Snail mail still exists. Despite email, faxing, FedEx, UPS, and couriers on bicycles and mopeds, the envelope delivery business is alive. Barely.
Thanks to modern technology the Mincey folks don’t buy as many stamps as we used to. But every now and again I have to try to figure out how to print an address on an envelope in my Mac. It happens so infrequently that I always forget the settings and it takes long to print a name and address on an envelope than it would to simply grab a pen and write it.
Those days are gone thanks to a free Widget that prints envelopes with a click or two.
Dashboard Widgets Are Antiques, Too!
My search for an envelope printing solution that didn’t require relearning every time I needed to print an envelope led me to EasyEnvelopes.
It’s a free Dashboard Widget for your Mac that does basically one thing. It prints envelopes. Easy.
Switch your Mac’s Dashboard, click on EasyEnvelopes, start typing a name, and it scours your Address Book. Click on the address and you’re almost ready to print.
You can also use EasyEnvelope to edit an address or type in an address the old fashioned way– manually.
Lest you think that EasyEnvelopes, because it’s free, isn’t full featured, think again.
It even prints on both sides of an envelope.
Not bad for free. All you need to do is select a printer on your Mac, and the envelope size, and click the stamp.
The stamp? Yes, in the upper right corner you’ll see the stamp with an image of a printer. That’s what you click to print.
All this is free and doesn’t require anything to relearn or remember because you only print envelopes twice a year.

Thanks Jesse! This is one of very few widgets I actually use
! I wasn’t aware you could print on both sides of the envelope though, so thanks very much for that bonus tip!
Don
This is one of the most valuable, useful Widgets on my Mac. It never fails. Always works. Easy to setup and use. Always there when I need it. And it doesn’t care which of our printers is used. If you do envelopes, this is the Widget that makes snail mail tolerable.
You know what the real problem is with printing envelopes? Having to load them in your printer. Unless you use them all of the time you’re left trying to remember which way the envelope is supposed to be loaded. Frequently, you have to remove existing paper to open up another tray or slot for the envelope. Programs like MS Word frequently do not have the latest driver updates factored in. I frequently give up in frustration and wind up printing a label from my Dymo Label program, or addressing it by hand. These widgets can be helpful but addressing envelopes is a pain.
